Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based, integrative form of psychological therapy, used primarily for helping people with symptoms of PTSD, and also many other concerns where the problem is related to the processing of adverse life experiences.
Dr Francine Shapiro “discovered” EMDR, when she was bothered by a stressful event, and noticed that rapid eye movements reduced the intensity of the distressing memory. She began experimenting with this approach with clients and colleagues, and developed a model and protocol which has become one of the most effective treatment approaches for PTSD.
